21, August 2013

Gainesville has been ranked "#1 City on the Rise" by notable finance and investing site, NerdWallet.com. The sight looked at "booming cities with growing employement and thriving industry" to decide the top-growing cities in the U.S. and landed Gainesville on the top of that list.

Nerdwallet stated the following three factors were most important in its data analysis:

  • Growth in working-age population.
  • Growth in income.
  • Growth in airport passenger traffic.

NerdWallet undoubtedly saw a valuable resource in the growing Gainesville Regional Airport. The site tracked passenger movement through city airports to gauge how many travelers - primarily business travelers - were coming to the city to find "industry and business opportunities."

Gainesville, according to NerdWallet, expressed "remarkable growth over the past five years." Gainesville Regional Airport has seen a 7.4% rise in traffic while the median income and employment rate have rised as well. The University of Florida is a leading employer in the Gainesville area and is a world-renowned research institution. The site also praised the UF Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation's ability to train high school leaders through their summer program.
