9-Week Tech Program Empowers Women in Tech Start-ups

A program designed to get more women into technology start-up environment opened registration yesterday. The free, nine-week program, Empowering Women in Technology Startups (eWITS), will start in September. eWITS is sponsored by the University of Florida Office of Technology and Licensing, UF Tech Connect, and the Florida Innovation Hub. participans can learn entrepreneurial and business skills, and will build business plans around real UF inventions. The eWITS program is open to all women, but is encouraging postdoctoral and graduate students working in research and technology to attend to increase their ability to commercialize their finding and inventions. Ultimately, the goal of eWITS is to result in more inventions emanating from the University of Florida.

Those interested can attend information sessions from 3-5 p.m. August 20 and August 27 at the Florida Innovation Hub, 747 SW Second Ave. This briefing will include a speech by a successful female entrepreneur. Refreshments will be served as well.
